While I’m not traditionally a poet, I was inspired to write this poem for my littlest companion, who will soon be turning five years old.
Taking over this town, they should worry
But these problems aside, I think I taught you well
That we won't run, and we won't run, and we won't run
And in the winter night sky, ships are sailing
Looking down on these bright blue city lights
And they won't wait, and they won't wait, and they won't wait
We're here to stay, we're here to stay, we're here to stay
Howling ghosts, they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart
King and Lionheart, Of Monsters and Men
You started out such a tiny little person
And you were mine, that much was certain
When you were born, I took you in my arms
I knew right away I’d never let you be harmed
It’s hard to believe you soon will be five
Seems like just yesterday I learned you were alive
Before you were born, I hardly knew
Love could exist so pure and so true
I remember the days you wiggled Mommy’s tummy
Even back then, I could see we’d be chummy
You’ve always been so vibrant and dashing
Your eyes ever sparkling with zest and with passion
I love you more with each day that goes by
Goodness, how it seems these days do fly
I promise to love you your whole life through
May you always know Daddy’s affection for you
Watching you grow is always a treat
Though there are times when it feels bittersweet
When your life began, I was there at the start
And I’ll always be there for you, Little Lionheart

Sweetest little Lionheart. 🤍
The most beautiful poem I've seen in some time.
