Mountains out here in the East are different than the West, lush, green, heavily wooded, densely packed. The West is vast, brooding, barren, and dangerous. The West feels untouched and dangerous while the East is more mysterious, like it hides old secrets.

The machete wavered in the surveyor’s tremulous hand. He knew he’d stumbled upon something sinister. The mountainside forest grew dark and forbidding. Twisting tree branches closed in around him.
Rows of benches, an aisle running down the middle, sat arranged in a perfect semicircle around an ominous altar bedecked with pagan carvings and animal bones.
The surveyor’s skin prickled and the hairs of his body stood on end. The air was electric with a pervasive presence of the supernatural. Gripping his machete in a hand slick with sweat, he muttered a silent prayer and slowly backed out of the clearing.
