Ah, Ehud the Left-Handed Assassin, one of my favorites. I almost fell sorry for the servants; you can just sense their awkwardness all these millennia later.

"The king has been awfully quiet. Should we go in to see if he is all right?"

"No, we shouldn't. Definitely not. You remember what happened the last time he was interrupted when he was, well, you know."

"Right, of course. We should wait."

*ten minutes later*

"Do you smell that? We should definitely check."

"The king had a mighty lunch, and you know how he is. He must still be attending to things. It is not uncommon. We should wait."

*one hour later*

"Okay, now we check.*

"You first,"

...

"We could wait perhaps a minute more."

And so on.

The first time I read this story, I laughed out loud at, "They waited until they were embarrassed." My next thought was, "Man, Game of Thrones has got nothing on the Bible."
