Most enjoyable. Brilliant action scenes that I could clearly see, as well as the castle, the tavern, the characters, just marvellous all round. Reinhardt being grumpy and coin obsessed is great and his killing the leader to save time shows his experience.
"Should have charged twice as much." I grinned everytime he said something to that effect. The way the merchant approached and hired him was completely believable; the way Reinhardt reacted, gives me a very clear image of their respective characters. He's almost like a truck driver being hired to take a cargo and finding out his customer didn't tell him about he'd need extra fuel, or off road tires.
Neglected to tell him about the wargs. Should have charged twice as much.
The battle detail was the right amount for me: spare, but clear enough for me to follow (I have a problem following battle scenes).
At the end of the story, I'm inclined to think Reinhardt is basically a decent guy, but I can't be sure. I'm assuming a background as a warrior somewhere. Haven't read all your other stuff, so if you've written this world before, or this character, I don't know it.
I care about this guy, this world, and I'm even curious about the wargs.
Thank you so much for the gracious words. I tend to think in cinematic terms when I'm writing action scenes, so I really want the reader(s) to be able to imagine what I'm imagining.
Sometimes it doesn't need to be the equivalent of alt text or an instruction manual. It was just enough of a peppering to keep us focused on the action and dialogue instead.
Swift and exciting, as is your way. This was quite entertaining. Reinhardt's certainly got some of those mercenary elements to him that are seen in Elric and Geralt, but he reminds me somewhat of Solomon Kane or, better still, the Grey Mouser as well. Very enjoyable read.
Thanks, man! You flatter me. It's because I apparently lack the attention span for long(er) form storytelling, lol. I realized after the fact that there is a heavy Solomon Kane influence in the character, which was quite by accident, but that's OKAY because Solomon Kane is awesome.
I don't know either, but it was GOOD. The action was taut, the premise intriguing, the dialogue realistic, and the mood was spot on.
I opened the email not really caring. I wasn't in the mood for anything at all really. And your story CHANGED that. Engaged me. Brought me more back to myself. And that's why it was exactly what I needed to read. And now you have my attention :)
There's nothing like a swashbuckling assassin to liven (hehe) things up in wargtown tonight.

Great!
Thanks a lot, my brother! Your thoughts are always GREATLY appreciated.

This was my first story featuring Reinhardt, but it certainly won't be the last. Thanks so much for reading! I'm beyond thrilled that you liked it so.
Really riveting action. It's almost put a whole snippet of a show in my mind. Your description for actions are very compelling.

That is very cool. You seem quite able to express it neatly too.
I agree 120%, great work! This is why when the mainstream croaks its last stinking croak, authors like Josh will be here to fill the void.
We'll do it together, my brother in Christ 🙏 This is the way.
One block laid after the other, the Wall of Wholesome shall be rebuilt!
I felt like I was watching this. The descriptions were gorgeous.
I actually was worried that I'd been lazy and not descriptive enough, so I'm very glad to hear you were riveted.

I really enjoyed this. Exactly what I needed to read right now. Thanks!
Thanks so much! This is my first fantasy story in a while, so I don't know that it's my best work. Regardless, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it.
