Romans and Spartans and Tolkienian elves, and now you throw mercenary Vikings into the mix? This is rapidly becoming a world I'm finding a goodly amount of excitement in.
Thanks, man, I appreciate it! I couldn't decide between high fantasy and ancient/medieval fantasy, so I'm just throwing it all together and hoping for the best. I'm glad that people seem to be enjoying it, though.
Holy crap this was good, so we've got Greeks, Romans, Elves & now Northmen, dude you already had me as a fan. Geeze, this was awesome I love the politicking.
After our debate I got excited and wanted to before continuing my poem read your story again, and then had to take a look at this story. Ouah, you've done a good job, keep writing brother!
I gotta say, I really had fun writing this one. Arlyn is a character I'd been trying (and failing) to write about for years, so it was supremely gratifying to finally get his story started.
Fun fact: this is the first story I wrote on the typewriter my wife got me for Christmas, which I think was EXTRA inspiring for me. I'm really glad that you enjoyed it.
Speak for yourself: your "Suits" story blew me away! But seriously, thanks so very much. The kindness and generosity of people in the Substack community (such as yourself) has fired my creativity and imagination in ways I didn't think was possible anymore. I've written more in the last 10 months than I have in at least two decades.
I should warn you, though: I'm not overly fond of the second installment in this series. I kind of forced it out when I would've been better off giving it time to percolate.

Love these dialogues.
Thanks so much, man! I used to dread writing dialogue, but now I kind of enjoy it.
You got the touch.

Great read! Caught the feel of an ice caked north well. Have you sketched a map of this world by chance?
Only in my head, haha. Maybe one of these days I'll have the willpower to actually sketch something out.
That’s some tight writing. Very well done, Josh. It flows naturally. I could almost feel the boreal winds against my face.
Wow, that means a lot to me coming from such an esteemed prosaist as yourself!
To be perfectly honest, I felt like it was some of my best work as I was writing it.
It’s good stuff!
