I've had my eye on Lisa's Highwayman novel for some time. All of her books seemed like they'd appeal to me, but that one in particular keeps catching my attention. I think it's time I put in the order.
You should check out Lisa's other novels. I read Pallas earlier this year and was blown away and will be checking out The Ghost of Tieros Kol later this year.
I hadn't heard of Pressfield or know about his Alexander book. I have an Alexander trilogy waiting to be read by Valerio Massimo Manfredi, would be interesting to compare them. I always fancied writing about the Diadochi myself but it is quite the looming topic.
Your High Priority List is truly stacked with great books, happy reading.
I'm close to finishing Son of the Black Sword and I hope to have my review out next week. It managed to break my fantasy book drought, which is really great.
My wife and I recently discovered that she randomly owns several of the Outlander books (she has no idea where they came from - she's apparently never read them), so I'm taking advantage of that situation. We used to watch the show, but the quality really dropped off after Season 3.
I agree with you there. I made it through season 4 and I haven’t watched it since. Not that I disliked it but it just didn’t have the same gumption the first few did. Such a shame too, Sam does a great job playing Jamie.
It seemed like all of the character's personalities completely changed once they got everyone to North America. I've always wondered if there was a big shakeup in the writing department, because the drop-off in quality from Seasons 3 to 4 was astonishing.
💯 I wonder that myself. I know there was a threat of a writers strike in early to mid 2017 but I don’t think that ever came to be. Of course that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some internal shake up.
I can see that. I certainly enjoy fiction, but isn’t my preferred reading. I always enjoy seeing others recommend good fictional work since it means it is “vetted”. If that makes any sense.

Dude, it's SO GOOD. Can't recommend it enough.
Jurassic Park - Brilliant
Ravenheart - Outstanding. As is all Gemmell
Not read the others but will check them out
Dragonbone Chair - Only got to page 320 (looking at my copy now) so would be interested to hear once you’ve read it if it’s worth going back to
My reading has also picked up this year but out of the 4 books I’ve read, 3 weren’t the best so we’ll see how i get on with the next one
Might have to do a similar article once I read something actually semi decent 👍🏼😁
Not sure how I missed that you were a fellow Gemmell fan! But it makes sense: I can definitely see his influence on your own writing.

I'm pretty sure I own Pallas. Haven't read it yet, though.
And I actually read that Manfredi trilogy when I was a teenager, lol. It was pretty good, as I recall.
Can't recommend Steven Pressfield highly enough. "Gates of Fire" is one of my Top 5 favorite books.

I've heard nothing but great things about it. Can't wait to check it out. And I'll definitely try to read your review!
Crichton certainly knows how to write suspense (and I love him for it). Jurassic Park is definitely one of the most enjoyable reads of my lifetime.
And Outlander is a beautiful tale. I’ve made it through books 1 and 2 but have a few other items on my tbr list before I head to book 3.

Do you mainly read novels?
Mostly. I'm not overly fond of non-fiction. I generally find it dull and tedious.
